Sister
Patricia McCarthy is a member of
the Congregation of Notre Dame.
For over thirty years she has worked
with the poor in the field of education,
in particular with abused children
for whom the ministry of nonviolence
is a challenge. Her teaching has
been in the public and private sector
of education and she has worked
with children from primary to college
levels. She has recently been elected
as
Associate Provincial for the United
States Province of the Congregation
of Notre Dame.
In
Illinois she set up a diagnostic
center for learning disabled children
in the public school system of Pembroke.
She spent nine years in teaching
and administration at the largest
residential school for emotionally
disturbed children in the State
of Massachusetts.
She
has studied the theology and spirituality
of Christian nonviolence. Since
1989, she has been lecturing on
nonviolence to students, adult education
classes, community and church groups,
teachers and parents throughout
Canada, the United States, Ireland,
North Ireland, Japan, Croatia, Bosnia
and Australia. She has a monthly
column in The Providence Visitor
and has published five books and
numerous articles on the topic of
nonviolence as a way of healing
today's society. Her first children's
book is due out frm the publisher
soon.
When
Sr. Pat is not writing, teaching,
or speaking, she runs marathons,
drives tractors, cooks fish and
bakes bread.
