His Way House

houseHis Way House Center for Spiritual Growth is in Memphis, TN. It is attached to the cloistered Monastery of St. Clare. It was built in 1926 as a school and a "Chapel of Ease" and operated for three years. It became the Poor Clare Monastery in 1929 and still retains some evidence of having been a cloister. The Monastery was enlarged in 1953 and eventually all of the Monastery functions were relocated into the newer section of the building.

His Way House today offers retreats and workshops teaching the five steps. Other groups use the house for confirmation retreats, senior retreats, workshops and conferences.

His Way House has 2 residents and one traveling priest. If you come, you are sure to see and hear Clown & Cara. Your chances of finding Fr. Knight at home are not as good.

We have a sad situation in Memphis and many other parts of the country. We have stray animals everywhere and in some cases they are forming packs and having puppies "in the wild." We have caught numerous strays in this area and have attempted to find good homes for them, unfortunately some of them have been too sick or too wild.

If you have a pet, have it spayed or neutered. They will be calmer, less likely to become strays, and will not contirbute to the pet overpopulation problem. If you are considering getting a dog or cat, go to your local animal shelter or rescue organization. You will get a good deal on a great companion and you will be saving one more animal from a lonely death. You can see thousands of animals available for adoption at petfinder.com.

Meet our dogs:

I'm Cara. I am a nut. I was adopted from the Humane Society. I bark some and run around in circles a lot, I 'm not sure why. I am a mixed breed and I may have some shepherd in me. I get to spend a lot of time inside now and I really like it -- there is so much stuff to chew up.

I'm Clown. I was just roaming around when I saw Fr. Knight. He looked like he needed me to adopt him and I did. I live with Cara now and things are pretty good. I got hit by a car before I came here and my hip is not quite right now. I am an Airedale or an Airedale/Poodle mix. I'm friendly and fun-loving. I get to come in too, and some people call me a couch potato.
